OH MY GOD, IT WAS MR. MCMAHON IN DISGUISE ALL THE TIME!  Throwing back to the 70s eta New Scooby-Doo Movies, when the Scooby Gang teamed up with folks like Mama Cass, Don Knotts, and Batman and Robin to solve mysteries, the next in the direct-to-video animated movie series will feature Scooby, Shaggy, and the gang solving a mystery at WrestleMania and teaming up with WWE Superstars.

YOU MIGHT VERY WELL THINK THAT.  I COULDN'T POSSIBLY COMMENT:  Netflix's House of Cards returns tonight for its second (and last) season.  While I'm still a great fan of the BBC original with Ian Richardson -- and I think the structure of British Parliament makes these sorts of shenanigans a bit less implausible -- this has been a great deal of fun.

IT WAS TWENTY YEARS (AND A DAY) AGO TODAY:  John Chaney. John Calipari.
ALOTT5MA FRIDAY GRAMMAR RODEO:  As Language Log notes, the "worst choice of preposition-phrase modifier placement anywhere in the world" might be the recent E! Online website headline of "Cameron Diaz Encourages Women to Keep Their Pubic Hair in Her New Book."
CUÉNTELE A SAÚL:  Yes, you'll want to see the full six-minute trailer for and read about some of the culturally-related changes necessary for the upcoming Latin American remake of Breaking Bad.

OUR SWEET, SPANGLED PRINCE:  If today is the end of Plushy's career, at least we've got the fashion to remember.
THE SONG IS BARELY THREE MINUTES LONG, BUT IT CHANGES KEYS 18 TIMES:  A thinkpiece on "Birdhouse in Your Soul":
Both literary and exuberantly naive, the song epitomizes a particular everything-at-once way of thinking and being. In the ’80s, it was easy to disparage hyperassociation like this as awkwardly geekish. It belied an ignorance of when to shut up—think Rick Moranis as the factoid-spouting Louis Tully in Ghostbusters. (Or for that matter, Rick Moranis in anything.) But something funny happened on the way to the millennium: the geeks won.
This is a Blizzapocalypse Open Thread.
IT'S NOT CLEAR HOW MUCH BAGGAGE SHE BROUGHT:  Have you thought "I enjoy the Winter Olympics, but wish that it featured more characters from HBO's original series Girls?"  If so, it's time for you to participate in the Shoshi Games.

YOUR COMIC OF COMICS:  Jamie Poniewozik remembers the late Sid Caesar: "[E]ven if you’ve seen little of his original work, any family tree of modern comedy branches back to Caesar, through the writers and actors he worked with, the works they went on to create, and the sketch-comedy format that the chamelonic performer Caesar defined."
MEET ME IN MONTAUK:  Vulture attempts to rank the twenty-five best romcoms in the twenty-five years since When Harry Met Sally.  Most shocking omissions? The 40 Year-Old Virgin, Never Been Kissed, and that British film where all the dudes hit on women who work for them.
OH! WHAT A BEAUTIFUL MORNING:  Given that NPH will be appearing on Broadway this season in Hedwig, I suppose Hugh Jackman is an acceptable replacement to host this year's Tony Awards.

SOMETHING CHANGED THAT DAY INSIDE LOTSO. SOMETHING SNAPPED:  A New Jersey manufacturer is claiming that Disney/Pixar stole from it the concept of a bear who dispenses "lots of hugs," though it's unclear whether theirs is an evil bear who smells of strawberries.
AS LONG AS OUR COUNTRY HAS SHIRLEY TEMPLE, WE WILL BE ALL RIGHT:  FDR said that during the Depression, and assuredly he was right. She was an icon, the first child star of the celluloid era, an honorary Oscar winner at the age of six, and an immortal before she reached puberty. As Jack Lemmon said during her Kennedy Center Honors tribute, she was "a child who will ever define the magic of the movie screen."

Watching her with Bill "Bojangles" Robinson and Bert Lahr in this 1938 number may give some sense of the talent and charisma she had, but even if you had never seen her work you still knew her by reputation—over thirty years after her peak, Cindy Brady still had dreams of being "the next Shirley Temple," and long after we are all gone there will remain a child's cocktail named in her honor. Her adult career as a diplomat, and as one of the first women to speak publicly about surviving breast cancer, only furthered the high regard in which so many held her. She passed away yesterday at the age of 85.

FERECITO:  The bandleader for Late Night with Seth Meyers will be Fred Armisen; "Fred will curate and lead the band, and continue to run it even when he's off shooting Portlandia."
ALSO, THERE SHOULD BE A SKI-JUMPING-FOR-ACCURACY EVENT:  Having seen its inaugural run, I'll say it again: can we all agree that if there is to be a "team figure skating" Olympic event, it should look like this?
WE DON'T ALL LOOK ALIKE!  Samuel L. Jackson does not like being confused with Laurence Fishburne.
