On a serious note: what's good about this statement, PR-wise, is the use of blunt first person language -- I cheated, I took advantage, etc. No wussy passive voice evasion.
For what it's worth, I didn't (and wouldn't) cover the Tiger Woods apology itself. I care far less about that than I care about Dan Rydell's apology (which, admittedly, is something about which I care a lot). What I posted about was the news coverage of the announcement that an apology would be forthcoming. The fact that a news program (even airport HLN) could spend a half-hour discussing somebody's announcement that he will make a statement two days later, particularly on a topic as tawdry and unimportant as the TIGER SEX SCANDAL!!!!!!!!!, is mystifying to me.
I watched it online at MSNBC, and when they broke in with that "NBC Special Report" music, you know that really pompous music they use for Meet the Press also -- da da da da-da-da-da-da, DAH DAH DAH DAH -- that says "something of major importance just happened" -- it made me burst out laughing.
Too bad, I was hoping for a "Repo Man" kind of apology: I know a life of crime led me to this sorry fate... And yet, I blame society. Society made me what I am.
