YOU REALLY LIKE ME: There are now six entertainers in America with higher Q Scores (favorability) than Will Smith, and the identity of one of them -- the one woman in the top ten -- truly stunned me.

Wow, I first read that as IQ score and the fact that Will Smith was in the top ten in Hollywood shocked me.  Q score makes more sense.

    Totally unrelated: TAR?

  2. I didn't see it until tonight.  That was a whole lot of fun.  Loved the stupidity, loved the glass challenge.

I read that as IQ as well.  It did not surprise me that Will Smith would be in that list.  I am more amazed that people still like Robin Williams.  He hasn't been charming in nearly 20 years.

  4. Top 10 in Hollywood, no, but I'd believe Will Smith is Top 10 IQ for A-list.  I've never heard of the women...didn't even recognize her.  Does anyone on ALOTT5MA watch NCIS?  Is it worth watching?  Is there a season that's a good jumping on point on DVD?

As for TAR, What a great episode.  When that tower collapsed, OMG, Oh My Gravy!  That was soooooo cool.  I actually felt bad for Catie - didn't think that was going to happen.  It would have sucked if just one team got the wrong directions, but with over half, it was just funny.  Other awesomeness; "In a Mercedes, for free", The Guy with the Animals and the Boat...twice, the brothers awesome tower, "We're professionals at following other cars", and most importantly...DUCT TAPE!  Plus, even though Jeff/Jordan deserved to lose, I was unjustly prejudiced against them.  They were sincerely nice people with a great attitude. I'll actually miss them...a little.

  5. Fine. Parenthetical added.

  6. I watch NCIS--it's a well made procedural with a comic edge (despite the military setting), and a nicely eclectic cast.  Yes, sometimes it's a bit too enamored of its own cuteness, and the Tony/Ziva UST has long since grown tiresome, but the mysteries are solid, and yes, Abby is awesome.  It's immediately accessible--barely serialized, but pick up with one of the early Ziva seasons, I think.

  7. I might not be the best judge, but I enjoy NCIS. It's got some problems, but it's mostly solid, easy to watch fun. Repeats show up on USA and Sleuth a lot, so you could just jump in.

  8. Can we discuss why no other women are in the top 10? Oprah? Heidi Klum? Betty White? Dora? Personally I'd put every woman in America above Robin Williams.

  9. Ellen DeGeneres? Tina Fey?

i'm guessing tina fey's rating suffers from people who do not like her portrayal of sarah palin and ellen's rating suffers from those who don't approve of her sexual orientation.

i'm surprised, though, that oprah isn't in the top ten.  and i can't explain robin williams.   would be fun to see the top 100.

Totally agree on Mike Rowe. In the Liekl household, he'd probably rank higher.

And Robin Williams is only on the list if the list was compiled in 1997, IMO. After GWH, but before PA. And I might be convinced to go to 1999... but when he did One Hour Photo in 2002, he totally changed in my eyes, and instead of charming, he became creepy. I have never looked at him the same since.

  12. I think Oprah suffers from two problems:

    1.  Arguably becoming overexposed.
    2.  Becoming increasingly political.  Given her full-throated embrace of Obama, tough for Oprah to get a lot of positive opinions from folks who dislike Obama.  (Similar to the concern with Ellen/Tina.)

And interesting that Harrison Ford, who hasn't had a hit other than Indy 4 in 10 years, is still top 10.

  13. I like NCIS - both original and western version.  All of the characters are rather harmless and pretty friendly.  The good guys are good, the bad guys are bad.  Of course, I enjoy the Chris O'Donnell/LL Cool J mash up...with Linda Hunt.

But my mom LOVES this show and so do her other 60-something friends.  Go figure.

Yet another NCIS enjoyer here, and I think Abby just appeals to everyone, including people who ordinarily would be a bit scared off by Goths (maybe it helps that Pauly Perrette is a Goth IRL as well).

I'm just kind of shocked that there's a person in the top 10 Q-ratings that I've never even heard of. I have to turn in my pop culture credentials.

  16. Mike Rowe is made of awesome.

Is NCIS > than say, Criminal Minds (which I like a lot)?

  17. I've watched like half of a Criminal Minds.  NCIS is kind of in the vein of something like Castle, except with a better formed ensemble rather than it being basically a two-hander.

As a random aside, I had no idea there was a Liekl household. I always assumed you were Callie K.L. How do I pronounce your online name now? My ALOTT5MA world has been rocked.

Two for me, since I hadn't heard of Mike Rowe either.

Such a good TAR episode!  Though I would've much rather seen Brent/Catie out than Jeff/Jordan -- vacant people with bad attitude and bickering in, vacant people with good attitude and laughing at themselves out, too bad.  I liked how Jordan laughed when Jeff goodnaturedly said "I wonder why we're in last place?" (or 'not winning' or whatever it was).  But hey, if Brent and Catie keep arguing, and Brent's willing to switch tasks and then not help with it, to prove a point, maybe they'll be out soon.

Cannot believe, based on how bad they were a few weeks ago, that the cops have won three in a row.  Awesome.  (And my husband just figured out that the reason one of the cops looks so familiar is that he went to camp with him.  Which makes it even more fun to watch.)

Was worried for Jet and Cord, what with all the talking head shots.  But Jeff/Jordan were having so much trouble that they wouldn't have been able to catch up.

The saber didn't add any difficulty (no penalties for doing it wrong), but fun to watch and must've been loads of fun to do.  And let's hear it for duct tape!!  Steve, you better be thanking your wife for packing it - if you did, they cut that.

I still love Robin Williams.  It means something to me that he is good at everything except staying sober.  And, I saw some recent stand-up and he still makes me laugh hard even after trying his hand at being a serious actor.

I spent several minutes pondering that very thing, Sheila!  I'm glad to know I'm not the only one who is now struggling with the pronunciation issue.

    And much less creepy violence.

Hmm do I keep the mystery alive....

Actually I think it was isaac who referred to me as Cal Liek (pre-acquiring of the "l"), and my now-husband and I found it pretty funny. I have been referred to as such since then.

Have I shared my married name woes? My married name is LaFleur (and no, I didn't *only* marry him so I could pretend I was married to Sawyer). When the kids next door found out that this means flower in French, they realized that my name is now Callie Flower... or as they call me now, Cauliflower. Apparently you are never too old to get teased about your name!

I think it's closer to Bones, especially in terms of the strong ensemble cast.

If you've watched anything narrated on Discovery Channel, you've heard his voice. He's a great narrator.

Also a great public speaker, this is great if you've never seen him before. It's long but worth it.

Mike Rowe used to host the local "Parade of Homes" Sunday morning real estate show in Baltimore and stayed with it until just a couple of years ago, even after "Dirty Jobs" was a success and he was doing national commercials.
