AND WE HAVEN'T EVEN HEARD FROM JEFFSTER! YET: ALOTT5MA does not yet have a Comicon correspondent, so no live coverage (I thought about going this year, though), but aside from ill-kept secrets (Joss Whedon is assembling The Avengers, Comicon loves Scott Pilgrim) and some nice surprises (a Sam Axe-centric Burn Notice prequel movie? Yes, please, especially if he gets to use his boomstick), it's always the musical performances that stand out--so this year, we have Barenaked Ladies performing The Big Bang Theory theme live (including two additional verses), and Tim DeKay and Matt Bomer from White Collar attempting to groove to "Tik Tok." If there's additional Comicon news worth discussing (or if you're there and want to gloat), this is the place to do it.

Going by this report, Cowboys and Aliens might have just become a lot more interesting for me for next summer.

ReplyDeleteAlso, man, is Avengers shaping up well--Mark Ruffalo as Bruce Banner and Jeremy Renner as Hawkeye are both solid choices, and while I'm not sold on Thor quite yet (I've never really gotten how Thor fits into Marvel's thus far relatively realistic movie universe), Iron Man, Nick Fury, Black Widow, and Captain America are all looking good. Add to it Whedon, who, if nothing else, knows how to stretch a buck and get solid performances. I'm just hoping that they don't force him to shoot it in 3-D if he doesn't want to.
ReplyDeleteThor doesn't fit, but Hulk, Spider-Man, and the X-Men do? And don't forget -- Captain America has been frozen for about 60 years now.
ReplyDeleteAll of the stuff thus far has been technological/scientific (implausible, to be sure, but somehow rooted in science/technology/medicine), whereas Thor takes us into the realm of mythological/magical. It's not "Thor's hammer is made of unobtanium, a metal which makes it indestructable and endows its bearer with strength," but "Thor is a god." It's a big leap for the universe.
