a possible Les Misérables film musical with Russell Crowe as Javert and Hugh Jackman as Valjean, directed by Tom Hooper. Paul Bettany, too, wants to be Javert.
Haven't we already touched on this? Regardless, this gives me the perfect opportunity to threadjack and briefly rave about seeing Hugh Jackman in concert in Toronto last weekend. The man is a TERRIFIC entertainer, a natural song and dance man with a fantastic voice and an incredible charisma. He NEEDS to be in some film musicals. Les Mis wouldn't be my first choice for him, but it'll do. I want to see him in a *lighter* role -- although the thought of hearing him sing "Bring Him Home" means I'm ok with seeing him as Valjean. I'm generally opposed to remakes, but if someone wants to cast him as Curly in a remake of Oklahoma, I'd be forever grateful.

ReplyDeleteI just saw Les Mis at the Ahmanson and MAN is it a beautiful musical. "Stars" is one of my favorite numbers, so whoever plays Javert has to have the chops, musically, for that song. Crowe fits, I think, the more typical vision of a Javert, but Norm Lewis who played him in the 25th anniversary concert, has a lankier look to him which isn't how I normally envision the character, but he was stellar.
Really hopeful about this film.

ReplyDeleteHm. The two times I saw it live, Javert was lankier and tall, so that's how I envision him. But he NEEDS to be able to sing -- why do I think Russell Crowe isn't good enough vocally?

ReplyDeleteI am glad this post has re-emerged as I have been thinking long and hard about what a Hollywood A-list Les Miz cast would look like. I know this is somewhat outside the box, but this could be outstanding. Let's assume we are stuck with Hugh Jackman as Valjean:
