ALL WORK AND NO PLAY MAKES HOMER SOMETHING SOMETHING: Matt Zoller Seitz slideshows his ten favorite Treehouse of Horror segments.

(Yes, we've done this before.)

Even without video clips, I was laughing to myself reading those.  I mean, the 1976 Philadelphia Flyers?  Even without that cheap shot artist Pronger?  THat's just wonderfully absurd.  But #1 for me is always The Shinning, partially because it's part of a really, really strong Treehouse with the connector being Willie always gets it in the end (the other two segements were Homer with his time-travelling toaster and the kids at school being turned into lunch.)

Also, Fly V Fly and Easy Bake Coven are in the same Treehouse as a personal favorite of mine,
<span>The HΩmega Man, where everyone in town besides Homer is turned into zombies by a neutron bomb.  Generally funny, but what always gets me is a completely gratuitous John and Edgar Winter reference when they pull into town and Homer runs them over, yelling </span><span>"Die, you chalk-faced goons!"  There's something about the way Castellenata yells that line that cracks me up.</span>

Also (oh, I could go on), there needs to be some love for the very first Treehouse, with that fantastic version of The Raven.

  2. Kang and Kodos for President, if just for "Abortions for some, but not for others!  Minature American flags for all!," "Don't blame me, I voted for Kodos," and "We must move forward, not backward, upward not forward, and always twirling, twirling, twirling towards freedom."

"Well, maybe I'll vote for a third party candidate!"  "Go ahead, throw away your vote!" as Ross Perot tears up his straw hat in frustration.

  4. I'm not even sure which Treehouse of Horror ep it's from (I saw it so long ago), but the line "Oh yeah, three bad nightmares! I'd like to see that!" is thrown back and forth between my brother and I on a regular basis. Typically in the presence of large quantities of food or any sort of junk food.

Treehouse of Terror II, where the framing mechanism is everyone is telling about their nightmares (Homer has his brain put in a robot, a monkey's paw takeoff and Bart as the kid in "It's A Good Life.")
