I was hoping someone would mention "Rufus is a Tit Man" and "St Judy's Comet." In addition to not growing up to be a tit man, Rufus Wainwright also inspired his father's "Lullaby," which I play religiously after babysitting my nephews ("Shut up and go to bed/Put the pillow under your head/I'm sick and tired of all your worries . . .") Two other notable omissions, The Pretenders' "Show Me" and Oscar Brown Jr.'s "Dat Dere."
So Begins Our Alabee by Of Montreal is my favorite song for a child. It's a rocking dance tune yet deals with all the fears of being a new parent.
ReplyDeleteThey forgot "Rufus is a Tit Man," by Loudon Wainwright III.
ReplyDeleteDoes Hey Jude count if it's written by one beatle about another beatle's son, or are we talking the whole Lennon-McCartney thing literally?
One of my favorites is Paul Simon "St. Judy's Comet," which is a lullabye to his son.

Some additional missing ones:
ReplyDeleteJust The Two Of Us--Bill Withers/Will Smith
Annabella's Song--Everclear
Richard Thompson's "End of the Rainbow" came immediately to mind. Which probably says a lot about me.
ReplyDeleteAlso, there's Suzanne Vega's "Birth-day (Love Made Real)" and Kelly Willis' "Reason to Believe."
