A WORLD IN WHITE GETS UNDERWAY: Randy ranks the ten songs which topped the Billboard charts on New Years Day in each year of the 1980s. Seriously underrates "Escape (The Pina Colada Song)", and as for "Say You Say Me," well, I've got a problem with that tune.

Thanks for the link, Adam!  It may only be temporary, but it's nice to see my readership expand beyond my facebook friends.  :)

  2. Randy, I enjoyed your entry.  But you really won me over when you said that Huey Lewis was robbed of the Oscar by Lionel Richie!  Looking forward to the upcoming decades...

  3. Physical fourth? Really? I'd rank Physical right alongside We Built This City as the worst songs of the 1980s. Maneater was underrated at ninth, if only for the quality of that bass riff. That along should have put it ahead of Physical, Say Say Say or Say You, Say Me.

  4. Finished in about the same place. Couldn't decide about the Says -- they are two of the worst songs in the history of sound.

    10. tie between Say Say Say and Say You, Say Me
    8. Maneater
    7. Every Rose Has Its Thorn
    6. Physical
    5. Escape
    4. Walk Like an Egyptian
    3. Just Like Starting Over
    2. Faith
    1. Like a Virgin

  5. 1985 songs that would have been better Osacar nominees (if they were even eligible).

When the Going Gets Tough, the Tough Get Going - Billy Ocean (Jewel of the Nile)
Don't You Forget About Me - Simple Minds (Breakfast Club)
Living in America - James Brown (Rocky IV)
Shout to the Top - The Style Council (Vision Quest)
