IT'S A STORY ... FOR THE ALOTT5MA UNNECESSARY REMAKES DESK:  CBS is developing a Brady Bunch for a new generation, with a grown-up, divorced-with-kids Bobby Brady replicating his father's history by marrying a woman with children from her previous marriage and blending their families, only this time the exes remain in the picture and the couple has a new child of their own. Vince Vaughn, his sister Victoria, and Peter Billingsley (?!) to exec-produce.

(Related: Bill Simmons' 2009 proposal of remaking Cheers with Vince Vaughn in the Sam Malone role.)

Why so skeptical about Peter Billingsley? He's all over various Vaughn/Favreau projects.

Came to comments to say the same as Adlai - Billingsley has spent much of his adult life collaborating with Vaughn and Favreau (and even directed the awful Couples Retreat movie a few years ago).  Though my feelings about his chops as a director may be mixed, always nice to see a child star who has a successful adult career rather than a sad "where are they now" story.

As for the remake of the Brady Bunch?  Would've rather seen the Cheers idea...

Ironically, the kind of show Robert Reed thought he was signing on to make (if they play it with any seriousness, that is, instead of totally for laffs). I doubt we'll watch, because the Brady Bunch is the Holy Family around the Gleemonex household, and we don't abide blasphemy, but this is interesting to hear.

Just -- tell me they're not going to shoot it mockumentary-style, with the talking heads and the whatnot. Please say we're done with that?

  6. If one of the sons (but, inexplicably, ONLY one) is a witty, effete Colombian, I'm in.

Nah, I'd rather see a cranky detective and his wife who become foster parents to five racially-mixed children.

  8. I actually thought you were referencing Kelly's Kids, the Brady Bunch final-season episode/backdoor pilot featuring a middle-aged couple adopting one kid who insisted on bringing his racially diverse friends along into the family.

They can do the mockumentary, but they have to use it in the form of the Tic-Tac-Dough opening for the Brady Bunch.

  10. Will the new child of their own be named Oliver?

  11. Peter Billingsley and Jon Favreau are apparently longtime friends from camp, and have a production company together.
