WE WANTED TO TRASH THE CANON AND CANONIZE TRASH:  Is it possible you'll find the artsier-than-thou Slant Magazine list of the top 100 films of the 1990s even more aggravating than AV Club's list of 50 last month? Take a look. Provocative and interesting, sure, but overall just plain ... wrong.

  1. Oh yeah, I was laughing at that earlier in the week. Twin Peaks at #11 is pretty damn hilarious. (However, the entry on Starship Troopers is pretty damn right, even if it is too high.)

But good lord, no Silence of the Lambs? No Natural Born Killers?

But there's room for Gremlins 2!

About the best I can say about this list is that it is all on a single page.

(Note: I absolutely detested both #1 and #2 on the list. I actually fell asleep during The Thin Red Line and didn't even notice when I woke up that I'd missed 45 minutes or so of the film.)

So now I know I can safely ignore Slant's film recommendations.
