HELLO, MY NAME IS ELDER CUNNINGHAM, AND I WOULD LIKE TO SHARE WITH YOU THIS MOST AMAZING TALE OF A FATEFUL TRIP, THAT STARTED FROM THIS TROPIC PORT ABOARD THIS TINY SHIP: Josh Gad to star, co-write a big screen adaptation of Gilligan's Island. NPH as the Professor, Anne Hathaway as Mary Ann?
Personally, I really like Josh Gad. Heck, I even (mostly) liked 1600 Penn, and think his performance in Jobs this year (as Wozniak) is one of those really good performances in a bad movie. That said, studios seem to be far more convinced he's the next Jonah Hill than the evidence suggests--with the exception of Frozen, all his movies/TV shows have been pretty big flops.
ReplyDelete(Also, fascinatingly--the next Broadway Elder Cunningham is the guy who played Benji in Pitch Perfect, which is a very different physical take on the role than Gad.)
Next Jonah Hill, or next Jack Black?
ReplyDeleteSo do we need a thin Skipper?
ReplyDeleteSkipper: Tim Robbins
ReplyDeleteThurston Howell III: John Slattery,
Ginger: Christina Hendricks
Mary Ann: Elisabeth Moss
And the Harlem Globetrotters as themselves!
ReplyDeleteI was going to Mad Men the whole thing, but it didn't quite work. Now, Bryan Cranston and Aaron Paul as the Skipper and Gilligan ....
ReplyDeleteIs Morse too old for the Skipper?
ReplyDeleteMorse as Howell, Slattery as Skipper?
ReplyDeleteTwo suggestions for each role, mix and match however you want.
ReplyDeleteSkipper: John Goodman, Samuel L. Jackson
Professor: Brad Pitt, Denise Richards (because she's already played a nuclear physicist, so she's totally believable)
Mary Ann: Beyonce, Anna Kendrick
Ginger: Elizabeth Banks, Gina Torres
Thurston Howell III: Samuel L. Jackson, Bill Murray
Mrs. Howell: Helen Mirren, Oprah
In which case we should get Google/Boston Dynamics to build the robots.
ReplyDeleteBenji was the Chicago Mormon Cunningham that my husband and I saw and we loved him. He's so much more naturally, deeply weird. It's so charming and so sweet and so innocent. Had has a thin layer of smarm which is not necessarily bad but I liked this take more.
ReplyDeleteMy brain just broke because the idea of Anne Hathaway as Marianne is too awesome for me to handle right now.
