ALOTT5MA CULTURAL SENSITIVITY DESK:  When Peter Pan Live! airs, it'll have several new songs--mostly trunk songs with new/revised lyrics.  Also, the lyrics to "Ugg-A-Wugg" have been tweaked-- the new version "replaces lyrics such as "ugg-a-wugg" and "gugg-a-bluck" with traditional Native American terms that have been approved by Native American consultant Jerod Tate."

I think at this point, we can assume "What Makes The Red Man Red?" is not even revised but completely gone. (Thank goodness.)

The exorcism of "waaaa-hoo!" will presumably make fools out of Cleveland fans.

I'll be keeping a close eye on the new interpretations of Rufio and Thud-Butt.

When my sister was 4, she watched the Mary Martin version every single day at the same time each day. When I got home from school for lunch each day, "ugg-a-wugg" was on. I know every syllable and wasn't sure how they were going to manage that song.

Huh. I'll have a post tomorrow touching on similar themes with Anything Goes, since I saw a regional production this weekend with the girls, and it was decidedly ... not revised.

  6. I was an Indian in a camp production of Peter Pan - and can still recite most of the lyrics too! Since they're already adding new/old songs, I think they should just get rid of it and replace it with a new song for them to sing.
