HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO US: Somewhat incomprehensibly and stubbornly, this blog turns twelve years old today. So thank you, Grantland's Katie Baker (and long-time lurker, who knew?), for this:
What's your favorite ol' site that never really evolved past Blogspot, but for the better? Mine is this: http://t.co/HxIeVYf9v9

I'll say as a fellow long time lurker, thanks to you all for keeping this site going for so long. Always a great place to find things I don't see elsewhere online, and good discussions that never devolve into a typical comments section. Happy birthday!
Happy blog...day? In the decade (wait, WHAT!?) I've been on here, there have been plenty of sites that have come and gone, but this one has always been part of my day. And with the exception of the time the sidebar flipped, it's been pretty much the same thing everyday. And that's kind of comforting.
Other pop culture anniversaries today: death of Duk Koo Kim; birthdays of Lee Strasberg, Martin Scorsese, Shelby Foote, Lorne Michaels, RuPaul; the Heidi Game; "People have got to know whether or not their president is a crook. Well, I'm not a crook.''
The 2006 link, particularly, sums up what I love about this blog. Coverage of reality TV, individual episodes of great shows, the Oscars, musical theater, and, of course, curling. Happy blogiversary, y'all.
Happy birthday!!! I've been reading since I was 16 - you all definitely helped shape my pop culture interests/obsessions. (Also, 12?? You guys, when this blog started I was 10.)

ReplyDeleteAlso having a birthday today? Disney's The Little Mermaid. We're happy to be Part of Your World!
ReplyDeleteHappy blog day! Glad to have been a part of it for 10 years now and impressed that you all keep it going. Thank you!
ReplyDeleteAnd a slight color scheme shift.
ReplyDeleteWhat we looked like in 2004, pre-comments.
2006, post-merger.

ReplyDeleteMy favorite part of the "I Am Not A Crook" speech is that it was delivered from the ballroom of the Contemporary Resort at Disney World.
ReplyDeleteAlso of note--birthdays for Gordon Lightfoot, Stephen Root, Ralph Garman, and Rachel McAdams.
I just realized what this means: this site needs a Bar Mitzvah date for next year.
ReplyDeleteAnd noted ALOTT5MA Spelling Bee Correspondent Cat Cojocaru, who turns 21.
ReplyDeleteThe blog is already working on its Torah portion.
ReplyDeleteHappy Birthday, one and all!
ReplyDeleteAnd a speech denigrating little brothers.
ReplyDeleteHappy birthday, y'all!
ReplyDeleteCrap. We need a mitzvah project.
ReplyDeleteHappy Birthday! Not a day goes by where I don't swing by and see what's linking (irrelevant, nonsensical or otherwise)

ReplyDeleteDamn - I was coming to say that I hope you've already booked a hall and a photographer, but I was too late...
ReplyDeleteHappy blogging birthday! Thanks to all for making this such a great place.
ReplyDeleteAnd my cousin turns 40 today!
ReplyDeleteMitzvahCon?
