THE REST OF THE STORY:  I feel like most folks moved on once she arrived in NYC, but you should know that the Grand Forks (ND) Herald's restaurant critic Marilyn Hagerty did enjoy her trip to Le Bernadin but also generally appreciated the Texas Roadhouse chain upon returning home, though "the dinner rolls that came with our meal were not baked long enough to be browned."  (At Texas Roadhouse, not Le Bernadin.)

This may be the most endearing line in the whole review, "<span> </span><span>We noticed small, little tables where women can place their purses. No need to sit there wrestling with a bag all evening."</span>

"<span>The sommelier, Aldo Sohm, stayed with us, describing in a delightful witty way of how he paired each course with the right wine."</span>

My god, I would not want to piss this woman off.  She'd tear you to shreds and you'd never be the wiser.

Umm, this may be the least informative, least interesting food writing I've ever read.  And I've read a lot.

  4. I totally love that she gives dinner at Texas Roadhouse and Olive Garden the same respect she gives Le Bernadin.

  5. Jim, you may find it hard to believe, but her review of Grand Forks' first Olive Garden went viral and national very quickly. It led to her being invited to NYC for the reviews which followed.

you know, when I first saw that, I thought it was very funny that she would review the "OG" that way, but on a second read, it's a good review.  She knows what the Olive Garden is, and it simply says little more than the restaurant meets a niche in Grand Forks, and meets it well.  I have no reason to think the Grand Forks Olive Garden sucks, and I think the only basis to assume this is that the joke is on Grand Forks, not her or the Olive Garden.  Which means the joke is on us.  I guess I agree with Bourdain, and I am NOT a fan of his.

Isn't that what the hooks under the bar are for?
