I DON'T EVEN KNOW HOW I KNOW HALF THE THINGS I KNOW: A whole bunch of Emmys were handed out at the Creative Arts Emmys last night, including a big pile of gold for the folks who did what they did to Rob Lowe's face for Behind the Candelabra; Best Guest Actor awards for Dan Bucatinsky (Scandal) and Carrie Preston (!!) (The Good Wife) in drama, and Bob Newhart (The Big Bang Theory) (his first Emmy ever) and Melissa Leo (Louie) in comedy; and Heidi Klum and Tim Gunn winning their first Emmys for Reality TV Host, because apparently Project Runway is still on the air.

Two under-noted stories:
ReplyDelete1. Despite an armful of nominations, American Horror Story: Asylum walked away with only one award. Partially, this is due to Behind the Candelabra being in the same category, but maybe folks are souring on it.
2. No EGOT for Alan Menken, with the Tonys song beating him out.
And I suspect some readers are very happy to see Lizzie Bennett Diaries winning an Emmy.
I'm not that bothered by AHS going in the "minisseries" category given that it really is an anthology show with a different story and different cast (or at least a rep company playing completely different roles) each year. I don't really think any weekly series is a "mini-series" but if the first season of Downton and Starter Wife were, then AHS is basically doing that every year.
ReplyDeleteMaybe there needs to be a new category for "limited run series" or something - there is a difference, especially in the acting categories, of what can be built up over several years, and the good work that can be done with a 7-episodes-and-done-by-design kind of thing.
