AMERICA'S GREAT DEBATES:Better (or at least more legendarily bad) subtitle for an unnecessary and awful part ii--"Electric Boogaloo" or "The Squeakquel?"
ETA: I misspelled "Squeakquel" originally. I am uncertain whether to be proud or ashamed of this fact.
Easily Electric Boogaloo. IO seriously doubt anyone will be using Squeakel as a shorthand in 20 years like EB.
ReplyDeleteThe Quickening?
ReplyDeleteAdam named my favorite, though I'm also partial to the Die Harder approach. Of the two in the original post, definitely Electric Boogaloo.
ReplyDeleteI love both Electric Boogaloo and the Squeakquel, but I agree that EB will have a much longer life span.
ReplyDeleteI rather thought that a chunk of the reason to do the second movie was in order to use the term "The Squeakquel."
ReplyDeleteI don't know... I'm hearing Squeakquel a lot in conversation, and I think it has staying power. They're both so hideous as to be fabulous - why must we choose?
ReplyDeleteI would have called it "Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Squeakening"
ReplyDeleteGreat. Now bill has given them an excuse to make another sequel.
ReplyDelete"The Revenge." It's a shark, people. (That's not a part II, but I think it's sufficiently horrible to deserve mention.)
ReplyDeleteTo the original question, I also love them both, but think EB has a longer shelf-life as well.
If there's enough demand for another Alvin and the Chipmunks film, maybe they'll go all out for "Alvin and the Chipmunk: Squeakuel 2: Electric Boogaloo"?
ReplyDeleteAnd even subtitles need taglines, right? "Alvin and the Chipmunk: Squeakuel 2: Electric Boogaloo: This Time, It's Personal."
ReplyDelete<span>"Alvin and the Chipmunk: Squeakuel 2: Electric Boogaloo: This Time, It's Personal, With A Vengeance"</span>
ReplyDeleteElectric Boogaloo forever. No question.
ReplyDeleteAfter 5 weeks their box office gross is $205,297,861. I didn't buy I ticket, I haven't given them an excuse to make another.
ReplyDeleteI've definitely adopted "squeakquel" as part of my vocabulary. I feel Electric Boogaloo is over.
ReplyDeleteThe "Squeakquel" is far too easy. Electric Boogaloo is from teh awesome 80's and is just so bad to be good.
