YOU WANT A REVIVAL? YOU CAN'T HANDLE THIS REVIVAL! Allegedly, plans are afoot for a revival of A Few Good Men to make its way to the Great White Way next season, and they're looking for a star to assay the Lt. Kaffee role (played by Cruise on film, and played by, inter alia, Bradley Whitford, Timothy Busfield, and Tom Hulce on Broadway). Any suggestions of folks who'd work for the principal roles?
ETA: The NYT says producers have expressed interest in James Franco and Justin Timberlake for the Kaffee role, and a commenter there notes that Rob Lowe recently did the role in London.
Brian Dennehy for the Nicholson role. As for a star to play Kaffee? I am totally drawing a blank at the 30ish or slightly younger 'star' range, or coming up with someone totally preposterous like NPH (who I would watch by the way, but don't think they would cast even as star).
ReplyDeleteTimberlake? Really? I mean, I can sort of see Franco but Timberpants?
ReplyDeleteIs Paul Rudd too old for Kaffee?
Alec Baldwin for Col. Nathan Jessup. I think he's earned it.
ReplyDeleteYou need someone who looks completely overwhelmed at the start, but can at least accept the fact that he's gotten very very luck in the end. To wit, Shia LeBeouf.
ReplyDeleteRemember that Timberlake is playing a major role in the Sorkin-penned "Facebook Movie" currently shooting. Perhaps that's what's triggering the interest.
ReplyDeleteI thought Timberlake was very good in "Alpha Dog." Franco would be ... different.
ReplyDeleteMatt Damon?
ReplyDeleteI don't know. Matt Damon looks far too much like someone who could handle the truth.
ReplyDeleteHow about Tobey Maguire?
ReplyDeleteRyan Gossling? Lee Pace? I think they both have the chops, but maybe not the name recognition that the producers are looking for (especially not Lee).
ReplyDeleteNice.
ReplyDelete"You can't handle the truth that I am God!"
ReplyDeleteChris O'Connell. Ryan Gossling is good too.
ReplyDeleteoops. O'Donnell. Right?
ReplyDeleteLooking back at the Sorkin world, if Matthew Perry wanted to do theater, he could actually be a good choice for Kaffee.
ReplyDeleteI saw Danny Noonan from Caddyshack in the role in Chicago back in the day. Just saying.
ReplyDeleteI saw Rob Lowe perform the role in London. About all I can say is: "I saw Rob Lowe perform the role."
ReplyDeleteThis is probably a dissenting opinion, and maybe reflects that I've only seen the movie version (about a million times), but I'm not really sure it matters that much who plays Kaffee. Jessup is obviously key, but even after Jessup, I feel like I'd invest more energy in who plays smaller parts, including Jack Ross (the Kevin Bacon role), Kendrick (Sutherland), and Markinson (JT Walsh). I feel like the shadings on those characters may matter more than the nuances of the Kaffee role.
