WHO DAT V. HOOSIERS: It's the ghost of Archie Manning past vs. Peyton Manning present in the big game, which this year, let's face it, will really be anticlimactic coming a week after the pageantry and passion of the Pro Bowl. So, who ya got in XLIV at Sun Life Stadium (perhaps better knows, according to Wikipedia, as Joe Robbie Stadium or Pro Player Park or Pro Player Stadium or Dolphins Stadium or Dolphin Stadium or Land Shark Stadium).
I blame the Prince song. Also, the turnovers. I'm just glad that The Who now has an opening act (and encore).
ReplyDeleteAlso, opening lines look to be Colts by 3.5 to 4.5, O/U of 55.5.
ReplyDeleteI cringed when Land Shark became Sun Life this week - what a horrible change!
ReplyDeleteColts 31, Saints 17...but I'd be a very happy man to see the Saints come marching back with the Lombardi trophy...
As a lifelong Saints fan, I gotta go with my guys. That said, I am already afraid of 'We're just glad to be here' syndrome.
ReplyDeleteAs long as Reggie Bush has a better game than Pierre Thomas, I think I'll be pretty happy. But as far as actual rooting interest, I can't imagine not pulling for New Orleans to win.
ReplyDeleteSaints for us.
ReplyDeleteSeeing as how the Saints saved us from the insufferable Favre v. Manning media drooling, I'll be hoping for the Saints. Of course, this is also like saying you're rooting for Sarah Connor instead of the T-1000. Sometimes I wish Peyton would show half the joy on the field that he does when dancing to Herb Alpert.
ReplyDeleteSaints. I loathe Peyton.
ReplyDeleteThe ManningBot's relentless execution will terminate the Saints by a couple scores. I will root for Illini Pierre over the tiny trojan.
ReplyDeleteI'll root for the Saints, but Saints D will be toasted.
The Saints game last night was awesome, probably the most fun I've had watching a football game in awhile. I'll be rooting for the Saints, for sure.
ReplyDeleteAnd I agree with Watts that a Manning/Favre SB would have been torture.
It's hard to think about the superbowl when I'm still enjoying the gunslinger's last NFL pass. He's like a kid out there!
ReplyDeleteWatching the gunslinger fail so epically to close out the game was far more satisfying than to see him fail gradually and complete with the Jets last year. Although sudden and complete failure against the Jets in the Super Bowl might have been even more satisfying. At least we don't have a Favre-Peyton Big Game, although Manning vs. New Orleans (and the legacy of Archie) will be insufferably in its own right.
ReplyDeleteIt's "highly unlikely" Favre will play again? Sure, Brett. I believe you, this time you're serious. See you in September, jerk.
ReplyDeleteThis is why I was hoping for a Jets/Saints Super Bowl; the two most obvious media angles (Favre v Manning and Peyton vs Archie's/his hometown team) would have been out of play and maybe some more interesting stories would have emerged. As is, expect a lot sepia, Spanish moss, and marble-mouthed discussion of growing up in the Big Easy.
ReplyDeleteWhether or not Favre plays next year (and I'd bet money he will), can everybody just agree not to mention it until he signs somewhere?
ReplyDeleteI'm rooting for N.O. because I like their team and think they deserve some happiness after Katrina, but I'll also admit a more selfish motive -- the trump card in the Brady vs. Manning and Pats vs. Colts arguments is the 3-1 ring disparity. An Indy win here (which I think is highly likely) closes the gap to 3-2 and brings the Manning/Colts inevitable surpassing of Brady/Pats a major step closer.
ReplyDeleteA Colts Super Bowl win would expand the gap between Manning and Brady, not narrow it.
ReplyDeleteUntil Manning marries Alessandra Ambrosio, I'm going with Brady.
ReplyDeleteYou had me at LandShark Stadium.
