Viserys' death was so emotionally satisfying to me...

Can't argue with this one at all.

I'm not sure that Mr. Salamanca would agree, but this is really only a two horse race (with apologies to Ser Gregor's horse.)

[ALL KINDS OF SPOILERS FOR BREAKING BAD AND GAME OF THRONES:]

Nah, I would have gone with Chicken Man.  Viserys wasn't even the best death in GoT -- witness the audience reaction to Ned.

  5. I think Ned's was the most shocking for people who hadn't read the books.  Until that point it felt as though he'd been framed as the main character.

Chicken Man's death gave me mixed feelings... first, Walter White is the main character but he's not the most likable.  Second, there'd been some nice character development, seeing his backstory earlier in the season.  Third, he was an awesome character till the end.

Viserys' death was the most appropriate for his behavior... molten crown of gold can't be beat for killing a creepy, bullying man who wanted nothing more than to be king.

  6. I'm going more for mode of death than emotional impact of death.

Viserys was way more epic than Ned.  Ned may have been the bigger character, but (and I say this as someone who hasn't read the books) the writing was kinda on the wall on that one.  It's like [IF YOU HAVEN'T SEEN THE WIRE, STOP WHAT YOU'RE DOING AND WATCH THE WIRE] when String put Omar on Brother Mouzone.  The die was cast, it was only a matter of time.

Plus he was like the what, fifth, sixth beheading at that point?  Only one crown of gold.

  8. Holy fuck was that a spoiler.  I'm only on Episode 6.  :(

  9. Um, yeah. I'll edit the post.  I figured it had been long enough.

  10. Probably has been long enough.  I'm just slow.  (I already knew about Robert and Ned, but not this one.)

  11. Thanks for editing.  The Dragon is now back asleep.  :)

I thought that was one scene that worked way better in the books than in the show -- both the build and the payoff.  Whereas the Ned Stark scene was one where the show really added something to what was in the book.

But, hell, if you're going just with mode of death, you need to give Sean Bean some kind of lifetime achievement award for that death reel we posted a few months ago.

  13. Wouldn't that be a Deathtime Achievement?

Breaking Bad for me, no question.  Then again, Game of Thrones is one of those things I just don't get.  I watched the first two eps, fell asleep 10 minutes into the third, and never went back.  I'm just generally not into fantasy anyway.

The crown of gold was pretty cool, but everything about Gus Fring's death was just superb.  The setup (where we didn't really know what Walt and Tio Hector had discussed, but could have guessed), the look on Mark Margolis's face right before the boom, and then of course the tie-straightening.  Gus Fring was an epic villain (on the very short list of the best villains I've ever seen), and was no doubt a more important character than what's-his-face in GoT.  And he got the epic send-off he deserved.  (And so did Tio Hector, for that matter.)
